Minister snubs Genies amid film flap

OTTAWA AND TORONTO — The Heritage Minister was a no-show at the Genie Awards Monday night but her office denied it had anything to do with the controversy over government plans to deny tax credits to TV and film productions that contain graphic sex and violence or other offensive content.

Josée Verner cancelled her appearance at the awards ceremony in Toronto last week to take part in votes last night in the Commons, including a confidence vote on the budget, spokesman Andrew House said.
