HALIFAX, N.S. - Prime Minister Stephen Harper is slated to pay a brief visit to Halifax on Monday.
Harper is expected to attend a meeting at 1 p.m. with business leaders at a downtown hotel.
The prime minister and his cabinet ministers have been seeking input from Canadians in advance of the release of a federal budget on Jan. 27.
The visit comes as a new survey of 1,000 Canadians indicates Harper is a polarizing figure who evokes strong opinions from both supporters and detractors alike.
The survey, conducted by Nanos Research and provided exclusively to The Canadian Press, also says newly minted Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff remains a blank slate for most members of the public.
On Sunday, Ignatieff said the conditions necessary to secure Liberal support for the budget include ensuring the fiscal plan protects the most vulnerable, saves existing jobs and creates new ones.
